Star Trek Model Kits: U.S.S. Defiant kit update

Things rarely go according to plan. I was hoping to show the mockup for our NEXT new Star Trek kit this week, but delays at the factory are preventing that this time. Good news though that we already have test shots for our all-new U.S.S. Defiant snap kit! So here’s a quick look. I’m also showing a look at the decal sheet. Unfortunately, we couldn’t fit the additional registries some have been asking about. (Updated) We are also including a cap (not shown in pics) to seal the base hole for those that choose to use a different mounting method.

We are pretty far along with this kit with packaging underway. Jim Small may be showing off some pics of our buildup soon on social media. We’ll be sure to share those pics on our Facebook page.

Everything shown here is subject to licensor review.

Already loving this kit, can’t wait to get hold of one.

  2. Tallon says:

Recessed panel lines. Clear parts. More screen accurate. BEAUTIFUL! PLEASE DO THIS TO MORE OF THE AMT MODELS!!! (and SERIOUSLY I would pay more than $200 each for a 1/1000 ent d and e)

  3. David J Christy says:

Is this kit the same size as the AMT/ERTL one? I still have not put that one together due to issues needed to be corrected on it. Also, a 1/1000 D – Agreed: I would also go to the $200-260 price point on it….

    • David E. says:

No, it is not the same size.
The AMT kit is approximately 1:420, the new kit from Round2 is 1:1000. The new kit will be less than half the length (width and height) of the original kit.
      It will be MUCH smaller.

  4. Florian Pollak says:

Great kit. Seems very accurate. I can only agree with People wishing for a 1/1000 scale Enterprise-E in the future.

  5. Gary says:

Nice-looking model! Only wish the decal sheet had other names for the Defiant class, like the Sao Paulo or Valiant.

  6. Scott Filgo says:

So excited to get this class starship at a common scale with so many other classics. Looking forward to more 1000s in the future!

One thing though: does the Trek model you couldnt share an image of yet have a name?

  7. Holt says:

WOW!! that looks fantastic and you say they are packaging already? Any idea how long till they hit the stores and how much they will cost.

Also you mentioned a new kit at the beginning of the post that you were hoping to show us. Can you at least tell us what ship it is?

  8. John S. says:

Model looks nice. Wish it were in 1:1400 though. 1:1000 was fine for TOS and movie-era ships as they are from roughly the same time period, but except for the Excelsior and Mianda-classes, which are hold-overs from the movie era, all of Defiant’s contemporaries have been released in 1:1400. This feels like the Akira all over again. I guess one bright side is that I could do a Paradise Lost dio.

  9. Josh says:

Looking better and better! Hope that sink mark issues above the impulse engines gets worked out though. Love the panel decals.

  10. David E. says:

Online retailers are saying the next Trek kit you hinted at is a U.S.S. Grissom and Klingon Bird of Prey 2-pack in 1:1000. This is terrific news, I’ve been wanting a Grissom in styrene for decades! Looking forward to any pictures you might want to share.

    Hey Jamie,

It looks like Steve, over at CultTVMan, has let the cat out of the bag regarding your next kit: a 1/1000 Klingon Bird-of-Prey / USS Grissom combo.

From your posts, it seems like there’s one additional [Star Trek] kit to be announced by Round 2. Is there any truth to that?

(Fingers crossed that the answer is “yes!”

    • JamieH says:

      “yes!”

The mockup is on its way. Hopefully, I’ll be able to show it in a post before Christmas.

      • Tchail says:

        Thanks!

        This is exciting news!

I’m looking forward to the Defiant and Grissom / Klingon Bird-of-Prey releases! I’ll definitely pick up your reissues of the Galor and Vor’Cha model kits (I never bought the originals.)

  12. Barnstormer says:

So many great kits, looking forward to them all. Thank you!

  13. wow! clear phaser housings! nice touch!

  14. Try again…I’m upset that you guys at round2models discontinued kit# 701/12 1965 Chevelle wagon…there are not a lot of wagons from the 60s and 70s out there for us to build…especially the popular ones. Ford Torino..Chevy /Nova/Chevelle/Impala. how a Vista Cruiser…Oldsmobile Wagon…anyways..I’m hoping you guys can somehow bring back the old wagon kits till you can come up with new ones…Pinto’s don’t count…I’m talking about full size wagons…or even 2 door wagons.

  15. Jon.c says:

What is the release date on defiant and grissom/Bird of prey kits?… no update in forever… waiting with baited breath here.

    • JamieH says:

Defiant is on the water now. So give it about 4 weeks. We noticed a few missing details on the KBoP which is causing that one a delay. I would expect that one in late August.
