Star Trek Models: Klingon Bird-of-Prey & U.S.S. Grissom

[UPDATED to show decal sheet]

In the midst of summer activities and staying at work on our new Klingon K’t’inga kit, we don’t want to overlook another exciting Polar Lights kit we have in the works – the Klingon Bird-of-Prey and U.S.S. Grissom 1/1000 scale snap-together kit. These are two fan-favorite ships and the Grissom is getting produced as a kit for the first time ever thanks to the numerous requests we’ve heard over the years. These two kits make a fine addition to our line or 1:1000 scale snap kits.

Here is a look at the packaging which features box lid artwork by Star Trek Production Artist, John Eaves. The box utilizes the updated Star Trek style guide and as has become our habit, we show a full color decoration guide on the sides of the box bottom. Both models come with stands and the Bird-of-Prey can be assembled with its wings up in cruising position or down in attack position.

After some delays in the tooling and test fit phase the kit is in production now, and product should arrive around the end of August.

These will look excellent displayed with my other 1/1000 kits. How big is the Grissom ?

  2. Ian Kisluk says:

These look amazing!!! One quick question though, why are there TNG Pennants on the Grissom’s secondary hull? Does it come with optional names and regs to do some of the ships from TNG? Thanks!!!

  3. Dan Gunther says:

Dang, the build-ups look cool. Can’t wait to get my hands on (a few of) these!

  4. Michael says:

    Hello!

Again not my scale, but it’s nice for people who loves 1/1000.
Jamie, there is an decal error: the first Obert class ship with wisible transporter pads behind the brindge was the Pegasus from the late TNG time. All ships bevore were withoud this pads ;p.

But my 1/1400 Makro Trek USS Vico NAR-18134 has this pads too :).

    Star Trek Style Guide???

    • Mike Dudek says:

A ‘style guide’ is a set of rules given by a licensor in this case, to the licensees as to how their products should be presented. It can cover a lot of things, from color and fonts, to even grammar used.

The previous Trek style guide had the dark blue boxes with the gold or dark yellow ‘Star Trek’ on it. Whether it was a Round2 model or Diamond Select toy, the look was almost identical. Recently the Trek guide has changed to mostly white with blue and orange trim. This kit and the recently released Defiant are part of the new style design boxes.

I’m sooo so happy that you have built an Oberth class. This has been the kit I’ve been waiting for the most since it was announced. I hope my hobby shop will get it in stock quickly.

  7. Tchail says:

This looks like a great kit!

    Keep up the hard work!

I’m excited to get (at least) a couple of these, along with the Defiant.

  8. Richard martin says:

Hi Round 2 could you do the klingon k’tinga in 1/1000 scale in 2019 thank you

  9. Brad says:

Really looking forward to this kit! Glad you did it in 1/1000! But with the inconsistent way Trek has portrayed ship sizes, you must have had quite the time trying to figure out how big to make the kits. Regardless, can’t wait to build an Oberth class ship!

  10. Jun Auric Cu says:

Please the 1/1000 scale Klingon K’tinga class cruiser.

Here’s a thought why not all Kirk era starships be 1/1000 and all Picard, Sisko and Janeway be 1/1400.

  11. Garry Vanderveer says:

Grissom scale too small for my liking.
    Not enough detail.
    Looks too toy like.

  12. j8s says:

These look outstanding! Would love to finally see the Grissom in a larger scale though.

  13. fortress says:

Offering a smaller scale dose provide modelers the opportunity to collect more subjects expanding their collections but in certain choices such as the U.S.S.GRISSOM it should be produced in a bigger scale to show off the subject.

    THESE SELECTIONS SHOULD BE ON THE SELECTION BOARD FOR CONSIDETATION;

    U.S.S.STARGAZER
    NEBULA CLASS STARSHIP FEDERATION
    U.S.S.GRISSOM SCIENCE SHIP
