Following the release of the 1959 Century Coronado, we have the 2nd boat found hidden in the Lindberg tool collection — the 1959 22ft Owens Deluxe Cruiser with Twin 50HP Outboard Motors!  With smooth lines and sturdy built, this is the roomiest 22 foot yacht. The combination of distinctive two-tone colors makes a beautiful boat and the large deck and spacious cabin makes a comfortable experience. Equipped with twin outboard engines – this luxury cruiser has been designed to combine performance and functional benefits with the beauty and comfort.

Like the Coronado the Owens boat also is connected to another famous designer, Raymond Loewy.  Raymond Loewy was know for creating logos for Exxon, Shell, BP, TWA, Nabisco, Quaker, and the U.S. Postal Service.  He created the USCG stripe as seen on Lindberg’s US Coast Guard Patrol Boat.  Most notably he redesign the glass Coke bottle, replacing the embossing with white letters and changing the contours to create the iconic shape we know today.

Fatures include: full color decals, vintage boxart, display base, chrome parts, and easy to follow instructions.

    Love this

Though I’m 54, I’ve never seen or heard of either of these boat kits. So to me, they might as well be new tooling. 🙂

I’m a Florida native, and seeing the FL registration decals is pretty cool too. I look froward to building both kits!

    Thanks Round2 !

Hey, how about a nice kit of the SS Minnow?

Just finished this kit,, 22ft Owens,,, I see this is the “NEW”, Lindberg Line,,,, I am 60 yo & have built kits most of my life,, but I must say that I found this NEW kit of VERY poor quality,, the fit & finish is awful at best,,, the quality of the plastic reminds me of Tupperware…. I’ll be avoiding NEW Lindbergs in the future…

Sorry that you weren’t satisfied with the kit. Though it was a new release, it uses a vintage tool like many of the kits we produce. This was the first release of this particular kit since it came out in the 1960’s. We realized the kit isn’t perfect, but it was an interesting subject and we marked the skill level as a “3” to tip off that it might require some work to get a nice result.

I have to agree with James Clark. I have just finished building this, and I will avoid the “new” lindberg line. It must be a product using the 1960s mold without ANY modifications… the quality of the product really takes you 50 year back in time. The product has awful finish. The number on each pieces are not clear. More than 50% of the pieces had distorted edges from plastic overflow. Worst of it all? The pieces DO NOT FIT into each other. You have to manually cut them here and there – manual sheet is useless.

If you want to call it the “new” lindberg line, please increase the level of quality…
building this low quality kit was more pain than fun.

I have to agree with the complainants. I was prepared for a tricky build when I saw the quality of the moulds. It was poor quality, and the price indicated it might be better. I had scratch built a boat trailer and planned to display it being towed by the new Revell Land Rover – but the contrast will be too great. I am literally disgusted with the quality.
