Polar Lights models: Wonderfest is right around the corner

One of my personal highlights each year continues to be the annual Wonderfest show in Louisville, KY. This year’s show is coming up the weekend of May 18 & 19 and it seems to be shaping up to be another great one. Seeing all of the great product available and seeing the work of all of the great modelers out there is a rare treat. Most of all though, I look forward to seeing all of the familiar faces and the chance we get to have to talk about our kits, the hobby and what you guys think.

Even though we won’t be unveiling big news like the 1:350 TOS Enterprise, there will still be tons to talk about. We look forward to showing off our brand new buildups of our 1:144 C-57D, Robby & Altaira, Wolverine, the U.S.S. Enterprise bridge set and plenty more. We’ll give some info on development of the Galileo, Superman and all of the other all-new model kits we have brewing. We’ll have some surprising licensing announcements including hints at our plans for the ALIEN license. As always, we’ll have our annual survey ready to fill out to supply us with your feedback. We’ll be sure to fill in everyone that misses the show with our usual follow up youtube video of our booth and announcements.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the show!

Sounds like a great time will be had.

I can’t make it, but I’m looking forward to reading the news about the upcoming kits.

Will you have any news on the exploration set?
Any chance of of 1/350 D-7 in the future?

    Thanks

    Mark

We are getting ready to finally move the Exploration Set tooling. We hope to have it out in 2014.
We’ll need to see a couple years’ worth of sales data on the TOS Enterprise before we can weigh the possibility of doing another grand-scale kit. Lot’s of smaller stuff in the works though.

Can’t wait to hear what is in store for the Alien Franchise! Also can’t wait to hear about the updated Bridge and Galileo models.

    Hi,
Will the Batmobile reissue have figures? Please improve the siren, deeper rims, lower suspension, rear canopies if needed, more accurate Futura underbody carriage.

I like really the Batmobile box art displayed at Wonderfest.

    • JamieH says:

Definitely new figures, but we’re still thinking through the details on them and what other stuff we might do to the kit. I doubt we’ll be able to do all you mention, but we are looking at things.
The box was a quickly done mockup, but it did convey the era of the package style we want to do on the next release. It could end up looking totally different, but that shows you the feel we will be looking for on the final.

Wow, I’m surprised that there are no comments!

    Is the board broken again?

So much great news coming out of Wonderfest – 1/1000 Reliant & Sulaco from Aliens, a 1/72 Space: 1999 Eagle.

The complete Star Trek Bridge is looking great!

But I was surprised that there was no news about another Cadet Series kit.

    Awesome work guys!

    • JamieH says:

Yep. a problem of some kind. We weren’t notified of the comments being made.

We’ve got another Cadet 3-pack in mind for 2014, but we just want to measure how the other new cadets are doing before we pull the trigger.

Does R2 have a licence to make new Space:1999 kits, or only repops? I am sure a 2 foot Eagle would sell like hot cakes!

My biggest wish from the Aliens licence is a Nostromo. This was the only kit that was not repopped by Aoshima a few years ago so I think there is much pent up demand for this ship.

    • JamieH says:

We can do new stuff if sales of the reissues demonstrates a strong enough interest. Nostromo is also a possibility later down the road if our new Alien offerings fair well enough.

    Thanks Jamie,

I’ll look forward to the set!

I’ll do my part with the big E sales. I’m working on my 1701 kit W/lights and will pick up at least one more.

Thank you for the Space 1999 kits! Can you elaborate at all.

Any tooling changes for the Eagle? Maybe an additional pack with the extra boosters, larger pods?

    Any luck on the Hawk?

Any changes to the Alpha kit?

    Thanks

    Mark

  7. Mach7 says:

Oh, and is there any release dates on the Space 1999 stuff?

    Thanks

    • JamieH says:

Eagle and Alien will be out by the end of the year. No tooling changes on them, but we do have something special planned for them. More on that later. We’ll talk about the Hawk whenever we have some traction on that. We have changes in mind for the MBA, but we are just now starting to look at the costs. We’ll let you know what we decide by the time the kit comes next year. 🙂
