Polar Lights Model Kits: Quick update

[UPDATED] I know it has been a while between posts and that is due purely to getting super-busy. (It happens all too often… but that’s a good thing, no?) I just received something to share that is worth interrupting my busy workday, but it will need to be quick. But while I am writing, a few updates…

POL952 U.S.S. Defiant – Arrived at our warehouse this week. You should be seeing it available from your retailers in the next couple weeks.

MKA028 Eagle Weathering Panel Decals – I totally overlooked the announcement of this. It is essentially the same sheet we included in the Brian Johnson special edition we did of the 22″ Eagle kit. These should be available in mid-late June.

MPC881 Hawk – Should be available from your retailers by the end of June.

POL957 U.S.S. Grissom & Klingon Bird-of-Prey – Due to delays in getting the test shots refined, this kit is slipping back to August. The shots look pretty good, but refining fit for a snap kit is always tricky. Packaging for the kit is being worked on now and we’ll show that off soon. We are thrilled to announce that it will feature a box lid illustration from Star Trek production designer John Eaves!

POL950 Klingon K’t’inga – Good news/ bad news … Delays in refining the CAD has caused this to slip all the way back to October. That’s only part of the bad news. The other is that this delay also pushes the test shots past Wonderfest by a few weeks. So we won’t have a fully built and painted model on display. On the good news side, the revisions were definitely worth it, because the factory was able to supply a second mockup based on the final CAD data and it has been assembling like a dream! We will have a new primered prototype with the lights on to show off at the show along with all of the buildups of the rest of our new kits mentioned above. We really look forward to seeing everyone at the show!

Now on with the thing I mentioned. A behind the scenes look at the K’t’inga nacelle tooling being created…

Looking forward to the Hawk (especially after seeing a YouTube build by hpiguys workshop)and the Grissom/BOP kit. Do the Eagle weathering decals include the various gray panels shown on the ship? Also, please consider doing the K’t’inga in 1/1000 scale for those of us that don’t have the display space for a 1/350 ship, however nice it is (and it does look great based on the photos you’ve already shown). Thanks!

I added a look at the decals to show exactly what is included. We would like to do a 1/1000 K’t’inga at some point. No idea when, but we hope to get to it one of these days. Having the bigger kit done will make that a lot easier, but because of the slight nature of some of the details on the ship, things like raised panels might start to get over-scaled.

Decals look great, they’re on my “purchase now” list. Glad to hear the 1/1000 K’t’inga is being considered, I’m sure it would be a big seller. I’m sure people understand that certain details can’t be done the same in a smaller scale, so I wouldn’t think that would be an issue for anyone that would want one.

Hi Jamie, very interesting to see the mold. Will the light kit have a red light or blue for the Ktinga “nose”?

  6. Rocketfin says:

I honestly didn’t think the KTinga would be here till December. So October ? That means you’re ahead of schedule! 🙂

Can’t wait for the new Hawk. I actually have one MPC Hawk still in the box, but it’s sealed. But now I don’t have to pop it open LOL But why bother? This new kit will be a lot better from what I’ve seen. (there’s also a youtube video review of the new Hawk under “hippiguy’ if anyone is curious).

Round2 is the best. Keep up the hard work 🙂

I used to work an injection mold machine making swimming pool filter parts when I was a teenager, that picture of the mold just gave me horrible flashbacks. I may have to buy a couple of those kits to ease the pain.

Ha! My first paying job… putting 1/4″ o-rings on plastic faucet valves. Thousands a day. We counted them by weighing them. 8 hours a day in July in a warehouse. Technically, we were working for piece rate, but I’m sure I never put enough together to earn more than minimum wage ($3.15/hour). By the time fall came, we moved on to doing 100% inspection of OFF bug spray pump bottles by hand. Each one took three pumps to get the liquid to eject. It took 4 hours after school each day to go through an entire pallet, and that still wasn’t fast enough to get above minimum wage…

Looking forward to all of the kits! Super-excited for the Hawk, too!

  9. BatToys says:

Jamie, saw your Wonderfest display poll on internet. How big would a 1/350 Discovery be?

  10. Alexander says:

    Hello,

i am urgently looking for the model of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 – 1/350 scale – 50th Anniversary from TOS (POLAR LIGHTS), the lighting set “DELUXE Accessory Pack MKA005”.
Can you please help me, where I can get the “DELUXE Accessory Pack MKA005”?

    I would be very happy.

    Best greetings from Germany
    Alexander
