Coming off the Shelf – An Introduction
Beginning next month, in an effort to spread the word about our classic AMT/MPC automotive/big rig model kit lines, I’ll be posting a monthly sneak preview of a selected kit which is scheduled for release in the not so distant future. As you may or may not know, our main focus in the model kit segment of Round 2 is to take vintage kits that have not been released in many years, sometimes decades, and bring them back to life – as they originally existed, packaging and all. This process begins by literally taking the vintage kits “off the shelf” and opening the box up to see what’s inside. Thus, the theme of this blog.
We do this because we truly care about the model kit culture. Where it’s been, where it is now, and where it’s going. We do this, in hopes of giving all the faithful modelers out there a chance to relive their past experiences . To be young again. And to all the new modelers out there. Welcome. I saw an AMT American LaFrance snorkel truck at the local hobbytown a week ago, Does this mean the ALF pumper will be out also??
Yes, David! We do plan on releasing the pumper. But, when that will be, we’re not exactly sure yet. Thanks for asking!

Not sure about that one David. It would depend if we have the tooling or not. Our director of tooling has not passed on any information to us regarding this kit. But you never know!
Would love to see a reissue of the Kenworth Movin’ On rig! Even if you guys cant get the rights for the show, there are no Kenworth W925 Conventionals out there unless you go the Ebay route.

That is wonderful news about bringing back the old MPC kits . I would dearly love to see the MPC Rupp Roadster mini bike brought out again WITH decals please .The original kit had springs for suspension but no decals . So , if you decide to bring back this mini bike, please, include the decals this time as I cannot make my own . Also I don’t care at all about those springs . Well molded plastic one’s would be better .

I’ll be dealing strictly with the automotive/big rig kits. But, we have additional staff who will be reviewing the other categories you mention!
I would welcome anything from days gone by , whatever is salvageable from an era some never got to enjoy. GM , Fords and Mopars from the 50ies and 60ies was always a big hit and still would be today as long as the aren’t butchered up from the original molds into some kind of dirt tracker car. Again thanks for anything you can offer us as modeling community.
I so would love to see the old drag teams again!!! I have all of them.. The Cal drag team would be so easy to do again…

I love what you are doing with restoring these timeless classics. Will you continue the parts paks? I sure hope so. Are you planning to re-release the competition parts pack that was brought out by Stevens International? I know there may be some legal issues, but if any way that would be great! I only bought one and have kicked myself many times for not buying 10 or so!
You must have most of the tooling? I have seen a couple in the parts packs. Do you have plans for the decals for some parts packs? All of your new decals are beautiful !! Thanks for reading.

Would love to see some of the mid 70s Camaros and Firebirds get reissued they are hard to come bye and expensive for original kits.
