Star Trek Model Kits: U.S.S. Enterp_ise?

Hey, guess who’s an idot? That’s rigt. It’s m!

Yeah, I know I can’t even get an apology right.

We’ve gotten a few kind comments letting us know that we’ve got a typo on our latest release of the 1:2500 scale U.S.S. Enterprise 1701-C. What can I say other than I’m sorry. Between the amount of work going into these things and the speed at which deadlines come and go, these things happen. I’d feel worse for myself but others, including the licensor, looked at them too and didn’t catch the error. In the end, I get the egg on my face though because the error happened on my watch. Oh well.

So what will we do to fix the problem? We’ll be sending out a replacement decal to anyone who will send us the postcard included in the Star Trek model kit. Fill out the information completely and mark the bottom with “ENTEPRISE C”. We’ll send out the replacements asap.

‘Fill out the information completely and mark the bottom with “ENTEPRISE C”.’
    Don’t you mean “ENTERPRISE C” -? 🙂

  2. Nomad says:

Erm..you did that on purpose, right?

  3. jaws62666 says:

Are you sending just the Enterprise decal , or a complete set of decals.

  4. mrnobudy says:

lol! this may make it a collectors item in the future!

so, may I be so bold as to ask about the Rumor of the 1400th scale ent-C being repoped in the future?

  5. ACE says:

You’d better spell it the way they say, if you want that replacement decal. 😉

Just cut out the “PRISE” from the replacement “ENTEPRISE” decal and add it to the last half of the existing “ENTER” of the “ENTERPISE” decal, and you’ll have the correct spelling with the two R’s

P.S. If the new 1/350 TOS ENTERPRISE kit is released in 2011, then all is forgiven. 😀

  6. Opus_Penguin says:

Agree with the above P.S. 🙂

  7. JamieH says:

“ENTEPRISE C” heh. Yeah, of course I did that on purpose… in my hastily written blog post in the five minutes left before a vacation… Like I could be that smart. I wish.

Regardless of how you spell it, we’ll know what you mean.

mrnobody- you can always ask about rumors…

First off, thank you very much for bringing back these old kits that I would otherwise be paying $80+ a pop on eBay for. 🙂 I LOVED the 1:350 Ent-A, my favourite model ever and occupies a place of honour in my home. I’ll add my voice to the others – if you could do a 1:350 Original Enterprise, we’d love you forever. The only complaint I have about the new kits is the lack of stand for the Cadet series but oh well, such is life.

As for the decal issue… what if you’re one of those people who throws away those post-card thingies, is there any way to still get a replacement set (I’ll be happy to send the flubbed set to you as proof that I actually own the thing) or am I out of luck? If the latter, no worries, I’ll build it out with the bad decal and sell it on eBay in 20 years as a collector’s item. 🙂

Just a thought regarding the “missing” stand in the Cadet series kits, how about selling separate stands (like the one used in the 1/1000 kits) on your website? Not only does it allow your customers to have stands for the Cadet series, but the stands can be used for other models as well. If priced right I’m sure they’d sell.

  10. mrnobudy says:

nice to know i can ask, Jamie, but will you ever answer with a straigh answer? =) at least not a qwirky, Lost-esqe, question within the answer type answer?

  11. JamieH says:

Spock62- We will probably offer our dome stands separately at some point. We came real close to including stands in the cadet kits. It just came down to price point. We may come out with bases for that scale at some point.

mrnobudy- maybe next year… now by that do I mean I’ll answer the question next year or do I mean the kit might come out next year?…

  12. mrnobudy says:

well, one way or another, the answer will come next year then sir! haha!

the C is one of my all time fav ships, so as soon as its official, i’ll be saving my pennies for a case of them. as long as they are not clear styrene…

  13. Elm City says:

What about Dealers that are selling these kits, or is it up to the individual customer to send in the card?

Nice to know one way or another, at least I can tell the customers to then send the card in to get a set of replacement decals.

    Thanks
    Scott

  14. JamieH says:

I think it is easiest for everybody to just have the consumers send in their cards to us.

A great idea I had for those wanting a cadet series stand, use the box itself! I picked up a piece of brass rod the size of the hole in the bottom of the model. Then poked a small hole in the top of the box, and fed the rod down and secured it inside with duct tape. With the new design for the box it looks excellent sitting on the shelf!

  16. eimb1999 says:

Actually, I’m hoping the model IS released in clear plastic… Heck I’d like to see them ALL done in clear. Makes it a lot easier to light ’em up. If you don’t wanna light ’em, you just paint ’em. Usually you paint models anyway, right? 🙂

  17. Bats says:

I gotta say…I like the idea of clear molded starships. Think about it, you no longer have to drill out the holes for lighting and in most cases a single bulb per hull will light an entire starship. Just use the appropriate tool and place drops of elmers glue where the portholes are. Spray with your chosen paint, then remove the elmers with a toothpick and walla! Put a bulb inside and you just saved hours on drilling, running and tying in fiber optics. Not to mention the cost of fiber optics. I know not everyone uses optics but hey, you still save the time drilling.

    “To the Batmobile!”

  18. mrnobudy says:

coming from the other side of the lighting argument, i don’t lite them, and usually it costs more to have the clear plastic, so it just makes it harder to purchase the kits for an option that I won’t need. not to be selfish, but thats just my 2 cents. Of course, in a perfect world, there would be both options, an opaque kit and a clear kit. =)
